Wholesale Drop Ship Merchandise: What Wholesale Merchandise Should You Dropship?

When considering wholesale drop ship merchandise, you need to choose carefully. Your product mix is important and spending time carefully looking at wholesale merchandise before you decide to dropship will save you from costly mistakes, or lost profits, in the future.

Your product mix needs to consider these questions:

* What is your range of products? A narrowly defined range of products will be easier to administer and easier to promote than auctions or an eBay store containing a gigantic selection of wholesale products. For example, "women's shoes" are easier to market than including items from multiple categories, especially at first. eBay offers blazers, jackets, dresses, intimates, jeans, outerwear, pants, shirts & tops, shorts, skirts, suits, sweaters, swim wear - and these are only a partial listing.

* On the other hand, you don't want to limit your wholesale merchandise too much, because once you have a satisfied customer, you will want to offer them other products. Wise merchants get customers into their 'pipeline' with less expensive wholesale merchandise and make their larger profits in repeat sales.

* Price is a definite consideration. Most drop ship wholesalers charge an extra fee for their dropship service, since it costs them extra materials and manpower to provide this service for you. A $4 fee, for example, means little when selling a laptop - it means a great deal when wholesaling a $20 pair of sandals.

* Weight and size are other significant considerations. Some items are so large and bulky or heavy that they're tough to manage in a home business. For instance, when selling large pieces of exercise equipment or entire sets of china, I couldn't comfortably manage without a dropship wholesaler.

Ultimately, though, the entire notion of wholesale drop ship merchandise is moot if you can't find a supplier. eBay is a price-driven marketplace and finding merchandise at a low enough price may not be possible. In fact, the odds are definitely against it, although it does work sometimes.
