Current Health Article: Reading & Writing Health Articles That Stay Current With New Discoveries

Health issues are getting more common these days as people are moving to being health conscious. It pays to read any current health article that will have future impacts on your well-being and how you’d be dealing with illnesses, stress, and help improve physiological functions.

Many health articles come out everyday from the Web or health sections in national dailies such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, etc. Many medical and health discoveries are revealed everyday as thousands of experiments and studies are concluded.

For instance, a current health article reveals how Niacin, a B-vitamin, may increase HDL (the “good” cholesterol) levels in the blood. Scientists and medical practitioners have long known the role Niacin plays in increasing HDL or high-density lipoprotein, in fact, it has been particularly used for this purpose. Yet, compared to other cholesterol-reducing drugs, Niacin’s reputation never went far except for being considered a B-vitamin.

For many years, pharmaceutical companies have been developing many new types of medications that increase HDL levels, but were not safe enough for human use due to their dangerous side effects. One such drug was torcetrapib, which raised false hopes in the medical realm. Niacin may just be the vitamin scientists should experiment on, because it works in two ways: it raises HDL levels and decreases LDL and triglyceride levels.

For a more current health article, the FDA has, on June 6, 2007, issued a stern safety warning against Actos and Avandia, two diabetes drugs that have stirred a Congressional inquiry. Actos and Avandia have been used for several years now, and continue to be prescribed to patients with heart failures, despite existing warnings that the drugs can increase a patient’s risk of congestive heart failure. The FDA asked the manufacturers of Actos and Avandia to place a special warning, called a “black box” warning on the labels of these drugs.

This current health article is featured in many current news journals in the Web and newspapers. With the warning elevated to the “black box” status, patients would hopefully take major precautions when using these drugs.

Current health articles like these help warn consumers against the use of certain prescription drugs, and in many occasions, serve as eye-openers. A current health article can be the source of health and medical overviews, which you might want to elaborate with your doctor. Medical practitioners regularly attend seminars and trainings to learn about new improvements and discovers related to the medical practice.

If you need a break from entertainment-themed articles that feature nothing more than gossip and how Paris Hilton’s case is going, a current health article might just be what you need to start placing high regard on your health.
