Home Health Newsletters: As More People Receive Home Health Care Relevant Newsletters Will Continue To Grow In Popularity

Home health care is an active and evolving industry, and many agencies and companies publish home health newsletters. These newsletters serve not only to update readers about the latest developments in the field, but also to provide useful and informative articles regarding home health care practices and concerns. Usually, however, these newsletters are not targeted at the general public, so perhaps the more transparent question is: what is home health care and why has it become so prevalent?

Home health care is a regulated formal program of care that is delivered by professional health care providers in the patient’s home. Home health care has become increasingly necessary because of a number of reasons. For one thing, diseases that are associated with age occur more often as the population ages and the elderly become a greater percentage of the population.

Another reason is that medical advances now allow better management of incurable and chronic diseases, such as AIDS. Still another is that most people, patient and caregiver alike, do not desire expensive and prolonged care near the end of life. And lastly, many people would rather receive care in the home rather than have to go to a hospital, and there are those that are physically incapable of being transported.

Home health care is a Medicare benefit that can be availed of, given that a patient satisfies certain requirements. The first criterion is whether the patient is truly homebound or not. A patient is considered homebound if he is unable to leave the home, or if this requires significantly tiring effort.

Secondly, care for the patient should be medically reasonable and necessary. For instance, pain monitoring and intravenous therapy and wound care are considered as skilled needs.

Third, the care required should be on a part-time basis. That is, if the patient requires constant medical attention, then he or she would be better off at a hospital than be attended intermittently at home.

Fourth, the patient must not reside at a nursing home or hospital. This is obvious, as additional health care should not be necessary at these “homes”.

And lastly, the plan for the home health care should be rendered with a physician’s guidance.

When the application for home health care is approved, support of family and friends is still essential. The patient will need their help and support if the health care program is to continue without any problems. Home health newsletters and support groups are other resources that those involved can make use of to help ensure that the home health care program is a success.
