Adjustable Air Mattresses: The Best Air Mattress Is An Adjustable One

For years, adjustable air mattresses were used in places where the usual bed or mattress was not practical due to space, portability or other issues. When I was a little girl, we used them when having spend-the-night parties, while reclining out in the yard to build our tan (we thought we were gorgeous!) , on camping expeditions, boats, at pools and even when on the road. We didn't have an RV, but friends did and they were very popular in such a spacious vehicle.

Adjustable air mattresses are still used for adventures. Their feather weight and the way they can be stored in tiny spaces make them handy for any bold explorer. But they have outgrown this limited use. In fact, many folks now view the air mattress as a very good option for their bed at home. From master bedroom to kid's rooms to guest rooms, you can find them substituting for a more traditional mattress.

Some folks are afraid that an adjustable mattress isn't sturdy enough for a large or overweight person.

Unless the sleeper is monstrously obese, like the 1300 pound man who was recently in the news, this is of no concern. Sleepers are extraordinarily comfortable on an air mattress as the air adjusts to your body, rather than having to adapt to the mattress.

One huge plus of the air mattress is that the hardness or softness can be adjusted to the comfort level of the sleeper - the more air, the harder it is and vice versa. Hence, it's an adjustable mattress. Some consumers are afraid that it's possible to accidentally over-inflate the mattress, but in point of fact this isn't true. It's not like a balloon! Any reasonable quality air mattress has a cut-off mechanism so that it won't add more air, beyond the safety point.

A traditional mattress has a coil in its interior but an air mattress doesn't. Coils are hard and uncomfortable and having one (or more) of them poking into your back makes for a miserable night. An air mattress, though, adjusts according to the pressure put on it, so your spine and back, as well as your legs, are treated to uniform support.

We haven't mentioned one of the real biggies about an air mattress ... price. Even the best quality mattress is considerably cheaper than the cheapest kind of standard mattress.

Some couples worry that sleeping together will be uncomfortable for one of them. Many air mattresses, though, offer the option of dual adjustment so that each person can choose their own level of support.

As adjustable air mattresses move from nature inside the walls of our homes, we can be glad that we have the choice to use it as a standard mattress on a bed frame, or to carry it with us wherever we go.
