Bed Quilts: Selling Country-Style Bed Quilts Is A Healthy eBay Business

Bed quilts are a tradition in many countries because they are so practical, yet so darned beautiful! A bed quilt can be simply defined as two pieces of soft fabric wrapped around padding and either hand or machine stitched. Sounds simple, but making a quilt is a lot of effort and good ones require skill. Therefore, their prices are often generous and they have a good market on eBay.

All kinds of quilts sell well on eBay, including country quilts. All bed quilts are one of two kinds:

1. Applliqued quilts: these have pieces of patterned fabric attached to a solid piece. For instance, a quilt maker might choose a solid ivory background and then applique various flowers on top of the ivory piece.

In the past, all appliquing was done by hand, but today's machines will usually applique a piece. The hand-appliqued bed quilts are nicer because their seams are turned under, for a more finished look, while machine-quilted are usually zig-zagged and not as elegant. Of course, the hand-appliqued quilts fetch higher prices.

2. The second kind of quilt is the patchwork quilt. In the past, material was rare and expensive and no thrifty homemaker would let any go to waste.

The first one is obvious – machine-woven bed quilts are all the same, while hand-woven are always a little different from one another. There are always many variations, even if the main theme is still the same. This gives Indian bed quilts a soul, especially when compared with dull similarity of machine-woven quilts made in US.
