The History of Fendi:

Fendi is quite famous but not only because of its immensely popular Fendi spy bag. This brand name has a long and stormy history. As with most famous fashion houses, it started in Italy, in 1925 when Adele Casagrande renamed her fur shop after marrying Edoardo Fendi.

The beginnings Of Fendi:

At first, nothing seemed to foretell the glorious future the Fendi family. The company dealt in furs and leather, leaving spy bags and other accessories to its competition. The company was originally run by Edoardo, but after his death in 1954, Fendi was taken over by his five daughters: Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda. The sisters divided their responsibilities – Paola took care of pelts, Anna designed bags, spy bags and accessories, Alda was in charge of fur salons and Carla was the supervisor.

The days of Fendi glory:

The changes in the company’s management were soon followed by the rapid improvement of the Fendi’s position on the market. But the company still specialized in mainly in the fur business. Fendi grew, and opened over a hundred of salons, selling their products – from spy bags to furs – thorough the world.

Buyout of Fendi:

But as time passed, the position of Fendi grew weaker and finally in 1999 Fendi sold 51% of their stock to Prada/LVMH joint venture. The rumor was the Fendi family feuded over the decision, but at least a few of them still remained in the company after the buyout and Karl Lagerfeld, one of architects of Fendi’s success still serve as the chief designer.

And in 2005, the winter collection of Fendi introduced the famous Fendi spy bag that swept the Western world with a buying frenzy, making it the most popular purse of 2005.
